“Through assignments and spending time with my team, I feel the beauty of diversity. Beyond the coursework, teammates from different backgrounds can give you insights about all aspects of life. This makes conversations interesting, and I’ve become increasingly willing to embrace diversity.”

Why I Chose Fuqua

I chose Fuqua for three reasons. First, I wanted to experience the Team Fuqua atmosphere—the strong team bonding, the more insightful results of team learning, and I wanted to make new friends in a diverse community. Second, I heard that Fuqua has a good career support system, that students have coaches during the program, and that Fuqua has a strong alumni network. The jobs graduates get seem promising, and finance and consulting ranks high among industries graduates want. Third, spending a half year in the US would give me the chance to experience a new culture as well as provide enough time for a job search back in China.

Before Fuqua

I interned in an auditing and investment banking department. I wasn’t certain I wanted this to be my future job direction. I wanted to determine what I really want in my career, plus have time to relax before I devote myself to work. The MMS program helped with my career decision and provided time to enjoy something different.

After Fuqua

I’m pursuing jobs in investment banking and consulting. With my knowledge about finance and the insights I’ve received in the MMS program, I now have a big-picture view of business. I do well in business communication and work presentation, and I enjoy a busy life, so investment banking and consulting are probably the best industries for me.

5 Random Things About Me

  1. I chose to play violin at a young age and now I’m teaching myself to be a jazz drum player, because drums are so important in strong-dynamic music.
  2. I appreciated my Women's National Flag class in my undergraduate university. I felt honored to guard the national flag and I always tell myself to be strong when facing hardship and pressure.
  3. I seldom cooked before I came to Durham but somehow, I fell in love with cooking and suspect myself to be some undiscovered kind of cooking talent.
  4. In our six months in the US, my friends and I have traveled to cities like Chicago, New York, Boston, Austin, Miami, Seattle, Fairbanks, and places like Yellowstone National Park, and Universal and Disney theme parks. My favorite place is New Orleans for its mysterious atmosphere and the fortune tellers.
  5. So far, one of my favorite courses in the MMS: DKU program is Introduction to Marketing Analysis. Professor Tong Guo used insightful cases from different industries to illustrate the main concepts related to marketing analysis, which really piqued my interest in this subject.
