Reflections

The global immersion component of the Global Executive MBA program is unmatched by any other MBA program. The Fuqua program includes teachings about major world regions/economies by providing the context on its history, cultural evolution, and how that has impacted the current business environment. These are key learnings for anyone operating in a global environment. I’m also impressed with Fuqua’s culture of team spirit. While most business schools (including Fuqua) are tough and competitive, the Fuqua culture encourages talented and intelligent people to work together and support each other through the program rather than step over each other to succeed.

Before Fuqua

I was an individual contributor working in product management. I was responsible for developing growth plans in a particular market segment.

After Fuqua

I have been promoted twice since starting the Global Executive MBA program. I currently head the sales and marketing teams at my company and lead the development and execution of the division’s growth strategy. Learnings from several courses lend themselves very well to my current responsibilities and put me on a path to pursue increasing roles of responsibility in management.

5 Things I Wish I Knew Before Starting the Program

  1. The program will go by very quickly. Don’t lose sight of why you’re here, but also enjoy the ride!
  2. You will get the most value from each class by completing the reading/exercises ahead of time.
  3. Residency periods are short and packed with class and activities – take advantage of the in-person time with professors and classmates.
  4. There is a lot of reading material for each class – develop a system to get through it (time budget, speed reading, skimming, text-to-speech audio readers, etc.).
  5. The Fuqua environment will provide several opportunities to evaluate your career options – keep an open mind to paths you may not have previously considered.
