Reflections
It’s become clear that organizations need attorneys who understand data – its risks, its value, its possibilities, and its limitations. This is a highly underrepresented area of law and I love helping organizations navigate this space. I work in insurance and health and life sciences, so studying data as it relates to health care was an obvious choice for me. The MSQM: HA program combined an in-depth study of data, practical applications, and a wide breadth of experience from health professionals from around the world, so I knew Duke’s program would be an excellent addition to further my passions and my career.
Before Fuqua
I am a regulatory and transactional attorney at an international law firm, helping clients navigate complex legal issues. My clients represent a variety of industries including in insurance, managed care, and pharmacy benefit management. One portion of my practice is to advise clients on privacy, data strategy, data security, and artificial intelligence.
After Fuqua
My degree helps me push the boundaries of people’s expectations of attorneys. I have started to advise clients regarding data strategy and love being able to show them how to be more intentional in their data use and management to both further and protect their business.
What I Learned from My Team
The team experience is an invaluable part of this program. I was often challenged to view things differently, which in health care and in data analytics is an incredibly valuable way to learn. One of the biggest lessons I learned from the team experience is that it takes intentional effort to make a team work, and when you are part of a team that has put in that effort, it is amazing what can be accomplished. This lesson reinforced to me that in a business setting, even when overwhelmed with work, building a strong team requires laying out expectations, boundaries, strengths, weaknesses, and conflict styles in advance, and then revisiting them over time.
